The oilfied is definitely a very rugged and fascinating industry. The best part of it for me was working with a very different culture of professionals than I was used to. Coming from the Dental Industry, I was immediately in a culture shock as I was surrounded by seasoned outdoorsmen who knew nothing except for rigorous hard labor while exposed to the elements daily. One thing that I wasn’t nearly as ready for I was thought I was, was having to film outside in the heat with these massive drilling rigs rumbling away which proved to be a challenge I had to work around.

The most amazing thing was, under all their stature of as Roughnecks, I found that that rig crews were made up of some of the most amazing human beings I’ve ever met. I interviewed dozens of people both in Central Oklahoma as well as the burning hot deserts of West Texas and they were all very open and accommodating in answering my questions and telling me about what they do and why they do it. While my time in the oilfield was short, I still took a lot away from it. I definitely recommend exploring different industries as it helps you learn more about where you want to be.
